Question: If Ted Kennedy Were On the Obama Healthcare Plan...
Posted by: John Coonen on Aug 26, 2009
News came out last night that Senator Edward Kennedy passed away, after over a yearlong battle with brain cancer. While I disagree with the Senator's philosophy and underhanded tactics, I do recognize, respect and support his God-given right and Government-given freedom to choose to secure the best medical care providers he can find.
While the Senator enjoyed a juicy-sweet benefits package that only Congressmen and Senators are privy to, while the rest of us minions must fend for ourselves - an inequity the Senator fully supported - that lovely argument can be put aside for the sake of answering this question:
What do you think? If Ted Kennedy, at age 77, were forced to be on the proposed ObamaCare Plan, would the Health Care Panel have chosen to extend his life?
Please reply below. As an independent conservative, I obviously think this is a rhetorical question, but please tell me whether I'm off-base in my thinking.

I believe that the true nature of the original posting is asking "would Sen. Kennedy have received proper care under Obamacare." Or at least that's the way I read it.
Rahm Emanuals brother (an MD) summed it up best.. In a word - No - that is if he werent' a Senator, which is of course, they are conveniently exempt from rationed Health Care.
He wrote an analysis that showed those between the ages of 15 to 45 would receive the best (read rationed) care available - due to their contributions they could still make to society. - [Hmmm "Contributions to Society - Komrade?]
My opinion, we don't need "Gov't" Health care or even health care reform, per se - that is where BOTH sides and all media are not owning up to the problem, nor are they being honest. Here's why - If the real problem (over priced health care, badly run businesses, overpriced meds) were dealt with, THEN the bulk of the "so called" uninsured would be able to afford Health Care. For example. The popular (and effective) asthma medicine - Symbicort - costs and uninsured person $265.00. Huh? - Why so much?
Another example. A friend of mine has sleep apnea - he uses a small machine that helps with that. Initially when he had it - it was set, less than proper for his needs. The company that provided it had to a) get the doctor to write a scrip. Then it had to in turn be approved by Insurance, then it had to go to one other place, then the tech could "turn" the dial down. More examples of waste.
So - NO we do not need "Europe" Or any other countries ideas of Socialized, Goverment Run Medicine. The health reform we need is to remove the medical pork from the system, let doctors be more competitive (vis-a-vis free markets) and tell the Goverment to get the hell out of our health care system.

I agree, absolutely. However that still does not address the problem where insurers refuse to insure people with pre-existing conditions, and that 50 million remains uninsured. Lowering costs won't solve this problem because it's the result of capitalism taking over the system (vis a vis Wall Street). Even with lower costs, insurers (which have been operating much like a cartel as far as I can see) will still refuse to insure people with pre-existing conditions because it's just good business.
There are a few things that are just better managed by the government. The military is one, mass education is another, public housing, public transport, and public health care. Without the government, it is just not possible to provide these services to the public masses.

I believe the US is at a point where any healthcare reform is GOOD healthcare reform. As a non-American, I watch Fox News and thank god I put off my plans to migrate there. No offense.
On another note, Betsy McCaughey resigned as Director of Cantel Medical Corp after appearing on TDS. She was the one who coined the "Death Panel" term, which I assumed was where you were trying to go with "Health Care Panel". Now THAT was funny. 5 bucks says she gets a gig at Fox.
The rhetoric coming out from crazies like glenn beck, limbaugh and o'reilly is doing FAR MORE harm to the country than "socialism" (once again, ANOTHER misnomer. The US will never be a socialist country, and Obama is not a Nazi - he's black for god's sake).
I am a conservative. I hold conservative values, both financial and social aspects (although I'm pro-choice and am an atheist). But these crazies are giving us conservatives a VERY BAD name (just like how hippies gave liberals a bad name). If you guys don't stop them NOW, and instead celebrate their cause, then the word "conservative" will go down the same road as "liberal", make no mistake.
