Republicans and Libertarians Must Unite To Be Relevant

Posted by: John Coonen

Let's face it, the last time Republicans had any street cred, Ronald Reagan was in office. His plank of "less government, less waste" was hammer-clawed right from the Libertarian platform. He knew then what we still know now: that while Libertarian philosophy - for the most part - makes great sense, the party itself is impotent, at best.

These days, most Republicans are closet Libertarians. I am, for sure. They read Reason Magazine; they steal concepts from the Lib's and call it their own; they know Bob Barr would've made a far better President than John McCain. Reagan wasn't secretive about his penchant for Libertarian values either.

So The Solution is Simple:

1. Libertarians, you need to get out of the party planning business (you're really, really bad at most of it, and about the time you get good, your talent will get hired away).

2. Republicans, y'all need to shut the hell up and work on some reputation mending.

3. Time to start a joint bank account and one hell of a database.

OK. I Said "Simple," Not Easy.

(Editorial Update): Do it, and Conservative CITIZENS win!  Don't do it, and Socialism truly WILL take over. As one reader commented, the Socialists infiltrated the Democratic Party, knowing American Citizens would rebuff the "S" word; Time for the Libertarian thinkers to rise to the top of the Republican power elite (or the bottom, serving others, as I believe).

Sure, there's a lot of legal mumbo-jumbo that needs to happen - logistics, getting over pride and turf ownership too. And yes, there are a hundred thousand obstacles and hurdles to get past in order to actually make this happen.

So, what are you waiting for? Get started!

Still not convinced after 3.5 paragraphs, huh?  Yeah, well one blogpost won't do it, but here's a little somethin' to chew on:

Welll...Right now, the Republicans, lacking a majority vote in any Branch of government, let alone lacking the credibility of a street thug (at least they get things accomplished) are irrelevant as beta video. We the People (remember us?) see right through the paper-thin partisan veil and we're rather sick and tired of the Republicans' inability to craft alternative solutions to the Obamacrazis' disasterous attempts at lawmaking.

Libertarians have the ideas. They've got the courage to stand up and fight. They've got the people in leadership roles who know a thing or two about how to communicate too!  So, it's time for the Libertarian "Party" to disband, and the Libertarian common sense political philosophy, along with its leaders, to assume positions of power in the Republican Party.

There. I said what's been on my mind for years. I've questioned myself for years, but I'm as sure as ever this needs to happen. If Conservatives want to re-take control away from Nancy Pelosi in less than two years, we better get crackin' because I believe there is no way in hell Republicans will win on their own. The common-sense Libertarian movement will see to that by splitting the vote.

United we stand. Divided we fail.
