You Are The Light Of The World
Over the past several years, thousands of people in my local area have been touched by an incrediblly fulfilling Christian mission called Light of the World Ministry. Our small group is one of dozens in the local area, and it is growing (much like it did about 2,000 years ago) to ignite peoples’ hearts and souls in nearby parishes, towns, counties and states.
If you haven’t heard of it yet, you have now, and you’ll surely hear about it again, and again in the coming months and years. It’s coming to a family room near you.
Light of the World kicks off with a weekend retreat that will move you more than any experience you’ve ever had. Then, after the retreat, attendees can choose to continue to meet in small groups as often as they like. There are suggested meeting formats, but each group follows thier own agenda, long after the retreat has ended. The small group I’m part of has been meeting continuously for just over seven years now, one night a week, in the welcoming comfort of a member’s family room.
At the small group meeting, we share life stories, pray for those in need, support one another when they need it most (and even when they don’t), and share ways we can each serve as Jesus would have us, to share the light.
If you’ve never been to a Light of the World retreat weekend, check out the information here. Created especially for Catholics, this weekend retreat and ongoing experience is a great mission to get the fire burning inside you brighter than ever. Not everyone who attends is Catholic, and that’s part of the beauty!
For dedicated or fall-away Christians, lukewarm or already “on fire” for Christ, the Holy Spirit never fails to ignite our hearts and minds, at every single meeting. We pray together, thanking God for all the goodness He has shared with the world, and we work to push back the darkness so prevalent in the world today, and fill it with joy, happiness, compassion, dedication and authentic fulfillment and service to others.
Through Light of the World, we learn and grow in our faith every week, as we all move forward on the path, do our best to support and encourage others to let go of the trappings of this world that can so quickly consume us, and know each of us is an important part of His heavenly plan.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”
– Matthew Chapter 5: 14-16
